Commercial pilot and BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy has reacted to the horrific accident of AI-171 of Air India in Ahmedabad. Based on the initial report of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), he said that the aircraft had reached the required speed for the take-off. That is, the situation was right to fly technically. Nevertheless, there were some technical disturbances, causing the accident.

Rudy said that according to the report, the speed of the aircraft was 180 knots, which is necessary and normal for the take-off. This speed is called ‘rotation speed’, on which the aircraft starts rising above the ground. But soon after this, both the engines of the aircraft suddenly stopped. At the same time, another indication received RAT (RAM Air Tribune) automatically deployed, which is usually only when both engines stop working.

Rajiv Pratap Rudy said that it is also clear in the report that APU (Oxylary Power Unit) became active, and RAT also started automatically. Both these systems come in handy only when the aircraft fails fully power, especially in the event of both engines fail. This indicates that the aircraft had severe technical disturbances, causing the pilot to activate the emergency system.

What did BJP leaders say on fuel cutoff?

Rudy said that when the pilot realizes that the aircraft is not under control, it shuts down the ‘fuel cutoff switch’ so that the engine can be resumed. This is a general security process. According to the report, in the cockpit, the pilots were asking among themselves, ‘Why did you stop the fuel?’, And the other pilot replies, ‘I did not.’ This also makes it clear that the incident suddenly occurred and there was confusion in the cockpit.

Report is just in the initial stage, investigation continues

The BJP MP said that this is only a preliminary report and many technical aspects are yet to be investigated. He expressed confidence that AAIB will go to the bottom of the reasons with full honesty. He said that there was no problem related to fuel and weight in the aircraft before flying, this was clearly written in the report.
