The organization of mountainous tourism entrepreneurs, Trekping Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) has reported that the Miteri bridge near Rasuvarghi village on the Nepal-China border is facing difficulties due to the collapse of the Miteri bridge to Kailash Mansarovar. Whereas Nepal is expected to host at least 25,000 Indian pilgrims this year for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra starting after a gap of five years.

The Sherpa community has urged China to give routes to alternative routes like Tatopani, Korola, Hilsa. TAAN has also called for Nepal’s Foreign Ministry to join the Chinese Embassy in Kathmando to simplify and accelerate the visa process.

TAAN general secretary Sonam Gyalgen Sherpa said that the Miteri bridge was washed away due to the floods in the Lehend River on Tuesday morning. Due to this, the road leading to Kailash Mansarovar is closed and pilgrims are trapped. He appealed to the Chinese government to allow pilgrims to go from Tatopani, Korola, Hilsa and other routes. This requires immediate diplomatic interaction. The statement said that Kailash Mansarovar, which is in the Tibet region of China, is now having a lot of problems for the Nepali and foreign pilgrims visiting there as the Miteri bridge is broken. This bridge was an important way between Nepal and China.

Government of India conducts Mansarovar Yatra through two routes

On 27 January 2025, there was a meeting between China and India in Beijing, in which the two countries agreed to resume the Kailash Yatra for Indian citizens. The Government of India conducts Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through two routes, including Lipulekh Pass (Uttarakhand) and Nathu La Pass (Sikkim). China has permission and cooperation on both these routes. This journey is done under the government scheme and only a fixed number of people get permission. However, most Indian pilgrims prefer to travel privately via Nepal. It has four main routes. These include Tatopani, Rasuvarghi, Hilsa and Lhasa flights from Kathmandu.
