In the last two decades, the region has been in discussion due to the rapid and frequent changes in demographics due to the rise in infiltration from Bangladesh. From 1951 to 2011, there was a rapid increase of 16 per cent in the population of Muslims in the region. The recent caste census revealed that Muslim population increased to 68% in Kishanganj, 50% in Araria, 45% in Katihar and 39% in Purnia. Overall, the Muslim population in these four districts increased to 47%. The central government is worried about the rapid demographic change happening in Seemanchal. This is also the basis of special intensive revision of the Election Commission’s voter list.

Opposition is the attacker

The most opposed to the revision campaign is in the Muslim areas of the state. A large part of this fraternity has been supporting the opposition grand alliance for a long time. The Grand Alliance wants to mobilize this community on the pretext of protest.

105 percent of Aadhaar card population in Kishanganj

About 90 percent of the country’s population has Aadhaar card. At the same time, this figure is more than the population in Seemanchal, Bihar. The number of Aadhaar cards in Kishanganj is 105.16 percent of the population, 102.23 percent in Araria, 101.92 percent in Katihar and 101 percent in Purnia.

The region is close to the chicken neck of the Siliguri Corridor, which is considered strategically highly sensitive. According to sources associated with the Election Commission, on the basis of complaints, it seems that there are an average of ten thousand fake voters in the areas associated with select districts including Seemanchal.
