The amendment bill states that the fares paid for the slums will be considered as the arrears of land revenue. This means that SRA will now be able to start recovery under the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code (MLRC).

As per the proposed amendment, if a defaulter builder does not have enough company property to repay the arrears, the liability may increase to the personal property of its directors or partners. Currently, the SRA may issue a notice to a defaulter developer to stop the work or refuse to give new permission.

Another change made in the law

In addition, there has been another change in the law. Earlier, people used to get 120 days to join a slum redevelopment plan, but now this time has been reduced to only 60 days. If more than 50 percent of people approve a redevelopment plan, the rest of the people will have to decide in just 60 days whether they will join or not.

Home rights may be lost if they are not involved in the plan in 60 days

After 60 days, those who do not join the plan, they can lose the right of a new house in their old place and they can be shifted to some other place, that too when there is a place available there.
