He was questioned about the statement of Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Pratap Singh Bajwa about reaching 50 bombs in the state. A few hours later, the police registered an FIR against Bajwa on Sunday. Bajwa has been booked under various allegations, including giving misleading information that threatens sovereignty and unity of the country. A case has been registered against Bajwa at Cybercrime Police Station in Mohali under sections 197 (1) (d) and 353 (2) of BNS. Section 197 (1) of BNS is about the charge of propagating false and misleading information that threatens India’s security, unity and integrity and 353 (2) is about misinformation spread with the intention of spreading malice in various communities.

What is the whole matter?

Recently, in an interview to a private television channel, Congress leader Bajwa claimed that he had received information that “50 bombs had reached Punjab. Of these, 18 have been exploded and 32 are still yet to burst.” After his statement, there was a stir in the politics of the state and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took it seriously and asked Bajwa to tell the source of this statement.

The Chief Minister questioned whether Bajwa has direct relations with Pakistan? Also warned that if this statement is given only for the purpose of spreading panic, strict action will be taken. The Chief Minister also clarified that neither the state police intelligence branch nor any central agency has shared any such information.

FIR lodged in these sections

  • A case has been registered under Sections 197 (1) (D) and 353 (2) of BNS in Cyber ​​Crime Police Station.
  • Section 197 (1) (d): It is related to spreading false and misleading information that endanger the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the country.
  • Section 353 (2): The misleading information given with the intention of spreading enmity, hatred or maliciousness in the society is associated with.

Police inquiry and investigation

On the instructions of the Chief Minister, a team of Punjab Police led by AIG Ravjot Kaur Grewal reached Bajwa’s residence in Chandigarh on Sunday. The team also included SP Harbir Atwal of Mohali. AIG Grewal said, “We came to the Leader of Opposition to get information about the truth and its source because it is a matter related to national security. But he has not shared any useful information so far.”

Bajwa admitted to cooperating with the police team, but refused to disclose his sources. At the same time, he targeted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over the deteriorating law and order of the state.
