If you want, you can equip a new car with dozens of assistants. But which one really needs? Five helpers who should not be missing.

Many assistants make the car more comfortable – but also much more expensive. And not everyone of them is urgently needed. And not everyone is really necessary. For example, if you don’t live in the mountains, you can of course save a mountain ride assistant.

These five helpers, on the other hand, are practical and helpful everywhere.

An emergency brake assistant is an important security feature. With the help of sensors such as the radar or camera, the system recognizes a critical situation, for example an impending rear -end collision on a vehicle in front. In such a situation, the driver is initially warned. If he does not react, the system initiates an emergency braking. Modern versions of this system also recognize pedestrians and cyclists. This assistant has been mandatory in every new car since July 2024.

The distance from the distance not only keeps the speed constant, but also the specified distance from the vehicle in front. If the vehicle in front becomes slower, your own car also reduces its speed. If the person in front accelerates again, your own car also accelerates – up to a predetermined limit.

With the advent of the LED technology, the development of headlights has also accelerated rapidly. A high-beam assistant can now automatically avert and blend depending on the traffic situation. In the case of advanced systems, the high beam even remains on and only hides the area in which it could interfere with other road users.

Parking is a challenge for many drivers. A park assistant can help make this task easier. There are different types of parking aids: from Parkpiepsern (are now mandatory for new cars) to a reversing camera that indicates the current steering impact, to systems that measure the parking space and direct the car into the gap independently.

A dead angle assistant, also called blind spot assist, is particularly helpful for confusing vehicle fronts. This system monitors the areas that the driver cannot see. If another vehicle approaches in this area, the assistant warns the driver, usually with a warning light in the exterior mirror.
