Old Note Exchange: The cashier of a government insurance company promised a huge reward by the fraudsters in lieu of one rupee note. He came under his deception and lost 10.38 lakh rupees. Information in this regard has been given by a police officer. The official said the incident came to light on Thursday when the 45 -year -old complainant of Santa Cruz West in Mumbai reached the West area Cyber Police Station. The person working in the churchgate branch of the insurer told the police that on February 23, while watching the reel on social media, he caught sight of an advertisement. After this the whole game started.
6,160 rupees deposited for registration
The complainant said that a reward of Rs 4.53 lakh was promised to the person who brought one rupee note in the advertisement. The official said that there was also a WhatsApp number in it. Cashier sent a photo of one rupee note to WhatsApp number. After this, a person who described himself as Pankaj Singh contacted him. Singh said that he works at the coins shop. The caller asked to fill a form. Not only this, he deposited Rs 6,160 for registration.
10.38 lakh rupees for collecting things
Further, the official said that after some time he again called the complainant. This time he said that the amount stated earlier is wrong and he will have to transfer Rs 6,107. The caller also promised that the first transferred amount would be refunded. After this, Singh introduced the complainant to another person, who described himself as Arun Sharma. Sharma sent a letter from RBI to the victim to win the reward in exchange for one rupee note. However, both of them got entangled the cashier in talks and recovered Rs 10.38 lakh by making various excuses from the complainant.
The cashier realized that he had been cheated when the accused told him that if he gives Rs 6 lakh and the prize amount would be increased to Rs 25.56 lakh. After this, he contacted the police. The official said that the matter is being investigated.
