At the age of 66, Alexandra Hildebrandt got her tenth child in mid -March. The Berlin museum director was already in the office on Thursday.

The colleagues would not have had a gift or flowers for them, says Alexandra Hildebrandt about their first day back at the desk. “You didn’t know that I was coming,” said the director of the private wall museum at Checkpoint Charlie in pragmatic tone. Just three weeks earlier, Hildebrandt gave birth to her tenth child in the Virchow Clinic by Caesarean section. She only spent a week in the hospital. On Thursday she already took the little Philipp to the office, she says.

She owes her job to work again so quickly. This would make life easier for her with an infant and seven other small children, which she gave birth to all after her 53rd birthday. After all, she can always take infants to work. She just has to do her duties. Only her two adult children no longer have to worry.

But when she comes home from work, a total of eight children are waiting for her mother. And then? Whether seven or eight children are to be looked after and cared for – “that makes no difference for my everyday life. My life is a challenge. But that is quite normal”.

Only when it comes to lack of sleep, Alexandra Hildebrandt says that she lacks something. Like every person, you need eight hours of sleep. But a three -week -old baby does not consider his mother’s needs. “I don’t always get this eight hours of sleep. Especially not in a row.” Last night – after her first working day since Philipp was born – she did not face an eye at all.

At the age of 66, the ten -time mother Alexandra Hildebrandt seems to be easy to reconcile family and work with ease and pragmatism. According to her treating doctors, it is not a matter of course that this is possible: “She is the oldest pregnant woman that I have looked after at the Charité,” said Wolfgang Henrich, the director of the Obstatic Medicine Clinic.

The doctors spoke of a miracle when they were released their ninth child. Alexandra Hildebrandt only says: “The doctors said that again at the birth of Philipp.”
