A 26-year-old originally from Mali had attacked the officers armed with a knife and was killed this morning in front of the Verona Porta Nuova station. Contrary to what had been learned, the foreigner was killed by a gunshot fired by one of the policemen.
The facts
From what has been learned, the man initially attacked the local police officers who intervened to investigate a car accident. He then headed towards the train station where, in the throes of a state of alteration (probably due to the intake of alcohol or drugs) he kicked the ticket office, damaging it, subsequently damaging some parked cars and also the window of a tobacconist. .
The killing
Two hours later, around 7 this morning, the man returned to the station where a State Police patrol tried to stop him to proceed with his identification. He reacted violently and attacked the policemen brandishing a knife. One of the Polfer officers fired three shots, one of which hit the attacker in the chest, who was killed. The same officer, as explained in a note from the prosecutor’s office and the police headquarters, “desperately tried to resuscitate the injured man, who unfortunately died a few minutes later”.
