France President Emmanuel Macron invited foreign scientists to work in France. “Researchers from all over the world, choose France, for Europe”, wrote Macron in online service X. His call is apparently aimed primarily at researchers in the United States, who see their working basis threatened by the policy of US President Donald Trump.
“Here in France, research is a priority, the innovation of a culture, science is a boundless horizon,” wrote Macron. His government will put up a funding program to support universities and other research institutions in recruiting foreign scientists. In Germany too, there is also a discussion whether top researchers from the USA should recruit and how to make the conditions attractive enough for them.
Since Trumps Return to the White House, the US universities are confronted with strong cuts. Foreign employees must also fear that they are arrested and deported because of their political views.
Most recently, Trump primarily targeted the renowned Harvard University. Unlike, for example, Columbia University, she opposed Trump’s attempt to influence the country’s universities. As a result, the US government had funding and loans freeze in billions of bills. Most recently, Trump threatened to revoke the tax exemption for Harvard and to prohibit the admission of international study prospective students. Trump justifies his approach with a missed “ideology” of the university and alleged anti -Semitism.
