“The government is fascist”

The US government is planned to plan democratic institutions in its own country. Legal professor Mark Lemley sees a historical parallel.
According to the legal professor Mark Lemley, who teaches at the Stanford University, fascism is already part of the US government. In an interview with the “Stern”, he explained: “I see all the signs here we saw in Germany in the 1930s.” He is not sure whether there will still be free elections in four years.
As the only bulwark against this development, the legal professor sees the judiciary – at least in theory: “There are judges there that follow him blindly.”
Lemley sharply attacks the US President to deal with the judiciary: “Trump attacks every pillar of the state,” he said. The 78-year-old judge who decide against him is insulted and threatened. His lackeys in the congress aimed to accept the officials against such judges. In addition, the president has already flirted publicly to ignore court rulings. Lemley says: “This is the last hurdle that has previously saved us to become a dictatorship.”
Top law no longer has confidence in the congress, only the courts could still stop him: “If the Supreme Court does not intervene or Trump’s judgments, it is a coup of state for me,” said Lemley. Trump is currently advised by humans who believe that all power lies with the president. So it is “only a very small step until the third term.”
Lemley, who teaches in Stanford, is currently considering whether to leave the United States, as other scientists have already done, some Timothy Snyder. “The government is fascist. The country is not yet.”
Trump is not a fascist even for Lemley – he is just an opportunist: “Trump doesn’t matter what the government looks like. He is only on his personal advantage.” The legal professor is more concerned about the people who are in the background – “for example Elon Musk or the men and women behind the Project 2025.” Here he is certain: “They want to abolish democracy.”
The tech entrepreneurs are on the “dominance”, there are only democratic institutions in their way. Lemley worked as a lawyer for Meta in the past. Now he lay down his mandate. “That was the reaction to Zuckerbergs and Facebook’s descent into toxic masculinity and neo-Nazi madness,” he said “Stern”.
With a view to the latest migrants, it is also clear to Lemley that politically dissenters are suppressed. He is also worried about his own security: “I will soon go to Europe and fear because I am so open my opinion that they will make it difficult for me to enter the USA.”
He adds: “Almost all of these thoughts are currently in my environment. The United States is no longer the country in which you want to live.”
