Yes, of course, there is only talk about posts and people at the very end. Content first! Until Easter it is about taxes, pensions and compulsory military service, not about ministerial offices! Do we believe that? Behind the scenes has long been outlined by the new government’s personnel table. The capital press cheerfully speculates who will be.
Let us ask the question differently: who should be what? We form our own government. A scenario taking into account the election result, no wild imagination. A black and red government what it could look like.
Friedrich Merz becomes Chancellor. And Lars Klingbeil Vice Chancellor. So far, so safe. But which department should Klingbeil lead? I see him as finance minister for two reasons. First, because Boris Pistorius should remain defense minister. Then the foreign office, which is also an option for Klingbeil, falls to the Union. This is how it wants the coalition logic. The departments and judiciary as well as economy and finance are also divided.
Uwe Vorkötter is one of the most experienced journalists in the Republic. However, if a partner constantly demands new expenses, the other is responsible for the solid household, it does not work – the traffic light greets. Angela Merkel also had an SPD finance minister. The man was called Olaf Scholz.
Foreign Minister could become Armin Laschet. The Christian Democrat was in the Federal Foreign Committee of the Bundestag, he knows about the world. He is European through and through his type of born chief diplomat: balancing, friendly, calm. You can send him to Washington to Rubio. Also to Lavrow, the Russian.
Funfact on the side: Laschet and Pistorius look really similar. In the world one would talk amused about the “German Twins”, the German twins. Sympathy and positive emotions do not harm international politics.
When Klingbeil becomes finance minister, the Union provides the Minister of Economy in addition to the foreign. Here it gets tricky. The previous Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection was tailored to Robert Habeck, which is a thing of the past. Some in the CDU would like a new Ludwig Erhard as the successor. Erhard is considered the father of the economic miracle in the early days of the Federal Republic. His department had little competencies, he convinced with his words. The Union has no new Erhard.
Others dream of an originally social democratic solution: Wolfgang Clement led an Economic and Labor Ministry under Gerhard Schröder. He was called the super minister. This is not my favorite solution.
But: a Ministry of Economics and Infrastructure. A department in which responsibility for the 500 billion cuddly is bundled. This ensures that quickly and seriously invested in rails, streets and power lines. Traffic and Construction Ministry would work in this department. Economy, big thought. Carsten Linnemann, 47 years old, one of the architects of the Nach Merkel-CDU, is my favorite for this Ministry of Investment. I trust him with a key role in the government.
Klingbeil and Pistorius for the SPD, Laschet and Linnemann for the CDU – where is the CSU? Here: Alexander Dobrindt is my Interior Minister. Söder’s husband in Berlin, closely connected to Merz. An interior minister who stands for internal security. Also for the limitation of migration. This corresponds to the election result. A contrast program for Nancy Faeser.
When it comes to the keyword Faeser, I notice that my cabinet has so far only consisted of men. We change that. How about Katharina Barley as the Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection? She was before, but only very short, because she then started as a top candidate of the SPD at the 2019 European election and went to Brussels. Barley is a lawyer, in this office I value the technical training.
I would like to get another Minister of Social Democratic back: Andrea Nahles. She was a very good Minister of Labor. Her party has motorized her, now she is heading the Federal Employment Agency as a civil servant. She has an idea of the matter and political format. Please not Hubertus Heil again! The inventor of the citizens’ allowance simply does not understand that the voters have rejected their course.
