“The Black Forest Clinic” wrote television history and with her Gaby Dohm, who became a crowd favorite in the role of sister Christa.
On March 25, 1989, the last episode “The Black Forest Clinic” flicker over the screens. 36 years later, the ZDF television series Kult and Gaby Dohm did not get stuck in the nursing sector drawer. On the contrary. Whether crime thriller, family comedy or romance – the Munich native can be seen in a wide variety of genres.
Even if the 81-year-old has long since exceeded the official retirement age, she does not think of retirement. Role offers do not fail to materialize. She can be seen regularly on the screen, most recently around 2024 in the mini series “In Eternal Friendship”.
The step into acting was not far for Gaby Dohm – as the daughter of the actor couple Heli Finkenzeller and Willi Dohm, she knew theater and film on childhood. She was born in Salzburg, grew up Dohm in Berlin. At first she did not intend to step into her parents’ footsteps. However, when she was too young for admission to the drawing class of the Berlin Academy, she decided on the stage.
After the first roles at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, Dohm moved to the Munich Residenztheater in 1966, where big roles soon followed: the Natalja in “Three Sisters” by Anton Chek, the Marie in Georg Büchner’s “Woyzeck” or 1974 the Gretchen in Goethe’s “Faust”. She had international engagements with the Swedish director Ingmar Bergman in “Tartuffe” or “Yvonne – Princess of Burgundy”.
Suddenly she became famous in 1985 with “The Black Forest Clinic” on ZDF-the starting signal for her TV career. How does she look back on the row? “When I see a repetition of the ‘Black Forest Clinic’, I think: that was quite good,” she once said in a TV interview.
Success did not stop even after the medical series. Appearance in further programs followed, for example over several seasons as a strict senior in the ARD success “for heaven’s sake” or for eleven episodes in “Four women and a death”.
In private, dohm does not make a big pick up for her. From time to time she can be seen on a red carpet, in a TV talk show or at a award ceremony. She was awarded the golden camera and the Romy, among other things.
For decades, the actress, who is lined with the director Peter Deutsch, has lived in Munich. Dohm’s ex-man Adalbert Plica, with whom she is friendly, lives in Lower Bavaria. Her son Julian Plica lives in Berlin with his wife and three children.
