Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Saturday that the decision on the dog’s memorial near the memorial of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Raigad Fort will be taken after intensive deliberations. Fadnavis said, ‘(of the Maratha dynasty) Holkar had made financial contribution to this memorial. It has been there for many years. There is no need to create controversy on every issue.
Urge to remove dog idol
He said that he would take a decision after detailed deliberations on the issue. Former Rajya Sabha member and descendant of Kolhapur royal family, Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati has urged the Chief Minister to remove the dog statue near the tomb of Shivaji Maharaj at the historic site.
No documentary evidence about pet dog
In a recent letter to Fadnavis about the memorial, Sambhajiraje said, ‘There is no documentary evidence about Shivaji Maharaj’s pet dog Vaghya. Since there is no such evidence, it is an encroachment on the (dog’s monument) fort, which is legally preserved as a heritage structure. ‘
