Munich Mayor sees the coalition agreement critically and demands a Minister of State for municipalities. Dieter Reiter threatens to “rebellion”.

The Mayor of Munich Dieter Reiter (SPD) warns of financial deficits with a view to the black and red coalition agreement, in particular the plans for income and corporate tax. Reiter told the “Tagesspiegel”: “We will certainly have fewer income from this. I would be happy to have a tax reduction for the citizens.

However, the preservation of the Germany ticket described riders as “fundamentally good”, limited: “For us as a cities, at the end of the food chain, that means: It has to be financed somehow. With my opinion, I don’t stand alone. Legal claim to kindergarten, crèche place, all -day care, everything without providing the financial means – so it cannot go on.

According to the coalition agreement, Union and SPD want to help municipalities with overwhelming old debts. According to this, the federal government should contribute 250 million euros per year to the federal states. The federal government should take part in half when countries take over excessive cash loans from their municipalities.

Because of their high debts, many cities and municipalities were hardly able to invest in the renewal of ailing gymnasiums, schools in need of renovation and swimming pools or ailing roads. The main problem is the so -called cash loans, which are actually only intended as a kind of overdraft facility for short -term bridging, but can often not be paid back. According to the Ministry of Finance, in Germany’s municipalities over the years of old debts of around 31 billion euros.

Nevertheless, Dieter Reiter criticized: “What dislikes me is that the municipalities seem to play such a small role. More than half of the people live in big cities. It would not be too much required to map it.” The Mayor of Munich spoke out for its own Minister of State for municipalities: “There will be a Minister of State for Volunteering – and I am too. But is that not possible for the municipalities?”

The Munich OB also praised the atmosphere in the coalition negotiations between the CDU and the SPD. This was largely shaped by discretion, in contrast to the negotiations in the stimulus of the traffic light government three and a half years ago. “I think that’s the beginning of a reasonable cooperation,” said Reiter.
