For Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom there will be paid upgrade packs for the Switch 2.
Nintendo will provide certain switch titles paid upgrade packages for the new Switch 2. These games then run under the label “Nintendo Switch 2 Editions” and, in addition to clearly souped-up resolutions and frame rates, also offer other goodies such as app support at The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
So far, what these upgrade packages should cost has been a secret. But that is at least partially ventilated, because Bill Trinen Nintendo of America’s Vice President of Product and Player Experience has been in one Interview with IGN among other things also expressed on this point (via insider-gaming.com)))
“Anyone who bought Tears of the Kingdom or Breath of the Wild can buy the upgrade packs for these games for $ 9.99.”
Almost $ 10 per Zelda upgrade -In view of the prices for other Switch 2 products, it could have been worse.
However, these prices only apply to the USA. Of course, it is obvious that we will pay around 10 euros for a Zelda upgrade package in this country, but this is not confirmed. Neither, by the way, whether this price also applies to other upgrades (e.g. for Mario Party Jamboree). We asked Nintendo in this regard and will adapt the article as soon as we receive an answer.

Upgrades are already included in the Switch Online + Extension Pass subscription
In the interview, Bill Trins also emphasized that the upgrades for all subscribers from Nintendo Switch Online and the expansion pass were already included free of charge and in membership.
Of course, it is always a very individual decision whether you are willing to pay a certain price for something, but from our own experience we can say that the money should be worthwhile at least for the Zelda games. Because the jump compared to the original is clearly visible, the app also offers all kinds of comfort functions.
While the prices for the upgrades are comparatively manageable, the general Switch 2 pricing policy causes significantly more trouble. In particular, the 90-euro price sign for the physical version of Mario Kart World is angry with many minds and the console, which is significantly higher compared to the Switch OLED, has already prompted some to wait for the time being with pre-order or purchase.
At the beginning of April, Nintendo caused a lot of clarity as part of a direct issue and, in addition to the price, also revealed the release date for the Switch 2. The system will be released on June 5, 2025, flanked by start titles such as the already mentioned Mario Kart World, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition and several others.
