The people want to see results

SANTO DOMINGO.– Melanio Paredes, a member of the Political Committee of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), criticized the government for boasting about presenting a new National Police uniform as a success in the process of reform, modernization, and transformation of that institution after four years.

“The Dominican people want to see results. Has the homicide rate, robbery, and crime really decreased? Is there a different public perception of the role of the National Police?” Paredes stated.

In an interview this Thursday on the program Ahora on La Super 7, the professor and political leader expressed disappointment that the government is focusing on presenting the “version 0” of the new National Police uniform.

“For God’s sake, after four years of that weekly mantra about the supposed reform and modernization of that institution, they present us with a flashy uniform,” he argued.

The former Minister of Education referred to a “super Police chief” who, in the past, left behind a colossal fraud and a tradition of mafia-like behavior among the sectors surrounding the institution.

“We need to see to what extent the positions taken within the National Police have impacted its operational mode,” Paredes added.
