In German supermarkets, Twix, cream cheese and oven doses are suddenly on the head. There is no coincidence behind it, but a quiet movement with a clear message – and political aftertaste.

Protest without poster and slogan: More and more products in German supermarkets are upside down. If you look closely, you discovered: there are mainly American manufacturers-from Heinz beans to Twix. Behind it is a Europe -wide movement with a clear message.

The idea came from the Internet. Under the keyword “Buy from EU”, more than 180,000 users have now joined the Reddit platform. They want to advertise for European products-and use an unusual means: US goods are turned over on the shelf. Not destroyed, not smeared, just turned upside down.

A reddit contribution shows pictures from a German supermarket: on the head on the head, fresh cheese cups, beans and chocolate bars. The comment: “People in my city understood the message.” The post triggered thousands of reactions within a few days.

The initiator of the movement is Laura Catz, a marketing manager from Romania. It operates the donation -financed directory Go European, which lists European alternatives to American products. “We want to draw people’s attention to European companies,” she says. Politically, the action is not meant, a boycott is not the goal.

And yet political criticism resonates. Many supporters see the campaign in response to the US politics – in particular on punitive tariffs and the protectionist attitude of previous governments. The idea itself apparently comes from Canada, which is always exposed to new customs threats. In the meantime, however, it is now also spreading in France, Germany and other EU countries.

The echo is shared. Some celebrate the campaign as a smart sign. Others are bothered by the resulting additional effort for the staff. “My son works as a shelf in the local supermarket,” writes a user. He understands the importance of movement, but is also annoyed because he has to put the products around properly. Other questions: What can US companies do for politics in Washington?

At the end of February the debate achieved a new dimension. A researcher published a list of US products and European alternatives. It was divided into x over 1.5 million times-of all things on the platform of Elon Musk, one of the most prominent Trump supporters.
