(CNN Spanish) – The president of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum reported this Thursday in her morning press conference that the soldiers involved in the death of six migrants in Chiapas this Wednesday have been placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office for investigations into the events.
Sheinbaum added that the nationalities of the deceased are Egypt, El Salvador and Peru. The president stated that they are in contact with the embassies to provide support to the relatives of the people who died.
CNN previously reported that in a confusing incident, the military fired at a truck that was allegedly trying to evade when encountering a military checkpoint and that in the end it stopped and also left several injured.
The events occurred on the Villa Comaltitlán-Huixtla highway, according to the Secretariat of National Defense of Mexico, which did not provide details of the way in which they died or how the vehicle in which the dead and injured were found was stopped, since whether it was due to the effects of the shots or because it had crashed.
