Ghost of Tsushima is one of the games that was the inspiration for new background animations.
Dynamic backgrounds were one of the most popular features on the PS4. Until she was on the Current Gen-Playstation, Sony let us wait a while. In addition, the feature has so far only been stripped down, because the animated topics are only available for the start tab on the console. But at least there is now a much larger selection!
Secret update increases the background selection to a total of 13 games!
Sony has now implemented a function on the PS5 that performs small updates without a download request or installation routine. One of them brings a lavish number of animated game topics to your PlayStation.
Previously, only Astro Bot was available in the category, Now you can also activate the associated background from the following games:
- Days Gone
- Demon’s Souls remake
- Ghost of Tsushima
- Ghost of Yōtei
- God of War Ragnarök
- Horizon: Call of the Mountain
- Horizon: Forbidden West
- Lego Horizon Adventures
- MLB the Show 25
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- Rise of the Ronin
- Stellar Blade
Except for MLB the Show 25, all backgrounds are animated: Sometimes lightning light up in the background, leaves flutter through the artwork or rain.
You can change the background as follows:
- You go to the image symbol in the start tab via the control cross or the left stick, alternatively you can also press triangle.
- Once there, you press R1 once and then choose the desired background image.
The chosen background is then only displayed in the start Tab, the backgrounds for the games displayed in the homescreen decide the developers of the respective title itself.

Unfortunately there are no additional sounds and icons are not modified, so the adjustments do not work completely as dynamic topics. The retro topics for the thirty year of the PlayStation brand and some fan hacks came closest:
Many updates in a shorter time
The added backgrounds demonstrate a little Sony’s slightly modified update philosophy. From now on there should be many small updates at short intervals instead of isolated large updates.
The current update to version 11 of the system software, for example, was not too extensive:
So it may well be that more smaller updates will follow in the next few weeks and then, for example, increase the selection of dynamic backgrounds again.
