Thomas Reis finds it painful to look at the pot even from a distance

Thomas Reis has seen a lot in the Ruhr area. He has experienced numerous adventures with FC Schalke and VfL Bochum in recent years. Not all of them have a happy ending. His heart still lies in the clubs from the pot. They’re not doing well at all. Unlike rice in Turkey.
Thomas Reis has found happiness in Turkey, but what is happening at his struggling German former clubs also affects him on the Black Sea. “I continue to follow the Schalke and Bochum games,” said Reis, “when my own playing and training schedule allows it.” But there can be no question of positive distraction in everyday working life.
“It hurts me a lot to see that the start of the season at Schalke was once again very turbulent and has now ended in a change of coach,” says Reis. He wishes “the club and especially the fans only the best” and hopes “that they get the necessary calm and consistency, especially in the important coaching position.”
Bochum also “unfortunately” experienced a “very difficult” start, Reis knows, but VfL knows that – “and in the end they still managed it.” “I definitely believe they will be able to stay in the league again,” emphasizes the 50-year-old. Today VfL Bochum is going to the small Revierderby in Dortmund. There, Reis was able to rise to the rank of football hero on matchday 32 of the 2021/2022 season. With a 4:3 (2:2) against triple Haaland, VfL secured early relegation in the Westfalenstadion.
Samsun is becoming a German coaching stronghold
Reis himself is fighting a similar battle, although he got off to an unexpectedly strong start at Samsunspor with four wins from six league games. The goal for the season is to stay in the league, “despite the very successful start to the season, we continue to focus on that and should not become arrogant.”
Despite the transfer ban for Samsun, Markus Gisdol’s successor was “more than open from the start” to his first foreign posting and has “settled in very well. It’s really fun here.” Samsun is not a classic tourist place, “but the sea is almost right on my doorstep. It’s really good to live here – the people are very, very nice and helpful, and the weather isn’t the worst either,” he says.
