The new Pamban bridge has been constructed by Rail Development Corporation Limited i.e. RVNL, which is a public sector undertaking working under the Ministry of Railways.

This bridge is safe for train operations at a speed of 80 kmph for 100 years. The expert committee has intensively investigated all aspects of this bridge.

RVNL director MP Singh said that although the bridge is safe to run trains at a speed of 160 kmph, due to its inclination towards Rameswaram end, the speed is safely fixed at 80 kilometers per hour.

Singh said that the Expert Committee discussed the design and all other worrisome points of the bridge and found that they were in line with the relevant provisions. He said that IIT Bombay and IIT Madras were also involved in the design of the design.
