Marco Rose is no longer a trainer of RB Leipzig. The Bundesliga club announces the separation. The step comes shortly before the semi-finals in the DFB Cup.
Downward trend in the Bundesliga, trembling for the Champions League: Bundesliga club RB Leipzig separated from coach Marco Rose. The club announced this one day after the 0-1 defeat at Borussia Mönchengladbach. The Saxons are only sixth in the table. With the chief coach, his assistant coach Alexander Zickler, Marco Kurth and Frank Geeckeck as well as Frank Aehlig, head of license player, are also released.
“We believed in the constellation with Marco and his team for a very long time and tried to create the trend reversal together until the end,” said Marcel Schäfer, the managing director of Sport according to the message. “In view of the development and the lack of results, however, we are firmly convinced that we need a new impulse for the remaining games to achieve our season goals. We would like to thank Marco and his coaching team for the last two and a half years who thank you together and the commitment to our club.”
The club wants to announce who will take over the coaching position in Leipzig. An important task is waiting for them: Already on Wednesday (8:45 p.m./in the NTV.de Liveticker) the semi-finals are pending in the DFB Cup against VfB Stuttgart. For Leipzig it is the chance to save the season.
One of the most successful Leipzig trainers
Due to the bankruptcy at Roses Ex-Club Gladbach, Leipzig slipped behind the opponent in the table. The Champions League is far away. It was the sixth away game in a row without victory, and the last three did not even score a goal.
Rose switched to RB Leipzig in September 2022. He had taken over the Domenico Tedesco coaching position. Rose led the team from eleventh to third place – twice in a row he qualified for the Champions League. The greatest successes were the profits of the DFB Cup and the DFL supercup.
With a cup victory and an average of 1.86 points in 125 games, Rose was one of the most successful Leipzig coaches. Only Domenico Tedesco, Julian Nagelsmann and Ralf Rangnick had a better point balance in the club’s Bundesliga period of the club.
Rose was already in front of that at the end of last year, when you didn’t win a single game in November and lost 1: 5 against VfL Wolfsburg. At that time, according to the new global football boss Jürgen Klopp, the new global football boss was committed to his former player. Most recently, Schäfer had also emphasized that he wanted to hold on to Rose. This changed the appearance in Gladbach.
