“I live more at the moment,” says Hamburg’s best-known Dragqueen about the teachings from their documentary series. What Olivia Jones learned through the confrontation with death.

Sleeping peacefully, surrounded by friends – this is how Dragqueen Olivia Jones introduces her own death. With the second season of the documentary series “Dying for beginners”, which starts today at RTL+ and VOX, the Hamburg native brings a social taboo in the heart of the amusement mile. “Peaceful, without pain, in a circle of friends. Like on the palliative care unit, in which I was able to make a trial internship with Steffen for the second season,” describes the 55-year-old her dream death in an interview with the “Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung”.

In her bar on St. Pauli, Jones installed her self -designed coffin from the first season of the documentation as an exhibit. A provocation between wigs and glitter, in the middle of the amusement district of the Hanseatic city. “If you discover that my wig showcase is my self-designed coffin from ‘dying for beginners’, that’s irritating,” explains the cult figure from the neighborhood to the HAZ. “But that’s what it’s about: don’t suppress, life and death belong together.”

The contrast could hardly be greater: a coffin as a memento mori in the dragqueen costume, the exuberant party life in Hamburg below. “Death reminds us of how precious life is that we celebrate one floor deeper in the ‘Olivia Jones Bar’ every evening,” explains the entertainer her unusual installation, the Hamburg and tourists alike. During filming, the encounter with a lonely death in a Messie-Haus was particularly shocking for Jones during filming-an experience that she forced her career for the first time.

The documentary series has not only changed the way the native of the jumper looks at death, but also her life in Hamburg: “I live more at the moment, pay more attention to myself, my friendships and the relationship with my mother,” reveals Jones in the HAZ interview. While others are suppressing death, the Dragqueen is already planning their “last big appearance”: “I have already finished my attendance script. Get on something,” announces the Hamburg scene size and adds: “Especially as an artist, you also have to remember that the funeral is the last big appearance.”
