Those who rely on care in the home usually have high costs to shoulder. The self -employment for the first year in the nursing home was last 2,871 euros a month – grants from the state already deducted from the state. This is a sum that cannot be paid without private long -term care insurance, high pension or assets. But what then? Who pays home costs if the person in need of care cannot raise them himself?

The answer is clear: no. Siblings are part of the so -called sidelines in relationship law. According to § 1601 of the Civil Code (BGB), however, only relatives of the straight line are mutually liable for maintenance. This includes your own parents and children. However, the matter becomes more complicated when siblings have common property, such as a house or apartment. Under certain circumstances, it can be ordered that the property must be sold in whole or at least partially so that brother or sister can bear your own care costs.
