Toni Kroos won numerous titles in his long career. His mother was also a successful athlete.
World champion, six-time Champions League winner, six-time club world champion, triple German champion, four-time Spanish champion and many other titles: Toni Kroos’ trophy cabinet is lush.
The 35-year-old midfielder ended his career last season. His career ended with the bitter defeat of the German national team in the quarter-finals of the home European Championship against Spain. Nevertheless, Kroos is one of the most successful footballers so far. With his six Champions League titles, he is one of the record winners of the competition.
But the ex-football professional, born in Greifswald in the GDR, and his brother Felix, who also played in the Bundesliga, are not the only successful athletes in their family. Her mother Birgit was also a professional athlete.
In contrast to Toni and Felix, Birgit Kroos did not step on the round leather over the soccer field, but showed her skill on the racket. For her home club Unit Greifswald, she played badminton – and quite successful.
Birgit Kroos won her first title in the adult area at the age of 15. At the 1978 GDR championships, she won the team title with Greifwald-and, like her son, almost developed into a series winner later. A total of seven other team titles should follow later.
Highlight of Birgit Kroos’ career, who was born as Birgit Kämmer, was 1986 when she was able to secure the title at the GDR championships both during the women’s doubles with her teammate Angela Michalowski and in the women’s singles. Birgit Kroos was also allowed to play four times for the national team of the GDR and won three games.
The success of Toni Kroos is no accident. Because father Roland also had his fingers in the game during his career. As a youth coach in Greifwald, he formed his sons’ football talent.
