“White splendor”
This street will soon become a natural spectacle

In hardly any street in Braunschweig, spring is more evident year after year: there are popular harbing of the warm season on Roonstrasse. It will soon be white there.
An entire street blooms in white: This sight will soon be deep in the eastern ring area in Braunschweig. Then Roonstrasse is once again a popular photo spot for spring lovers.
Because: This year’s magnolia blossom has started. Little by little, the trees that have become bare by the winter bloom on the side of the road. At the end of March, approaches to the “white splendor” can be seen from which the city itself raves.
After a renovation in 2013, the city had planted a total of 54 magnolia trees of the “Merrill” variety in Roonstrasse. These are considered to be particularly blooming and have been the unique charm of the street since then.
The small, white buds, which are already visible now, are only the harbing of the large, porcelain -like flowers, which mostly appear at the beginning of spring. This year, the full splendor can be expected at the end of March and early April.
The history of Magnolia goes back to the Cretaceous period. Around two and a half million years ago, the city writes, the ice age temporarily drove Magnolia out of Central Europe. Around 1780, Asian Magnolia returned to Europe. Developmental history they are even older than bees and are mainly pollinated by wind.
Since Magnolia only produce very little nectar, beetles and skin wings in particular can be settled on them. These are put on by the flower scent and take over the pollination.
