La Quimera: In this area, 4a games would like to break new ground

The developers of Reburn (formerly 4a Games Ukraine) are currently working on their new “La Quimera” project. In an interview, the studio confirmed the season of the new title and revealed in which area “La Quimera” stands out noticeably from the “Metro” series.

In February, the Studio Reburn, formerly known as 4a Games Ukraine, terminated the story-based sci-fi shooter “La Quimera” for consoles and the PC.

Playfully promise the “Metro”-Macher a shooter in a dystopian future of Latin America, which is supposed to convince primarily with an intensive change of shooting and an exciting story. In an interview with the colleagues from Wccftech Project Director Oleksandr Kostiuk provided us further details about “La Quimera”.

In the conversation, the director pointed out that the developers deliberately concentrate on the narrative aspect of the shooter. Therefore, they waived a game world with large areas, as was recently offered in “Metro Exodus”. Instead, the developers at La Quimera rely on a linear approach.

Optional content loosen up the story

However, this approach does not mean that the world of “La Quimera” has no secrets to offer. On the contrary, as Kostiuk emphasized. “Yes, we strongly focus on offering a compact, story -driven experience in which the plot leads the player through the world of the game,” said the director.

“Therefore, we chose a rather linear approach in the design of our locations. But that does not mean that there is nothing to discover. Players will still be able to find secret areas and optional zones that are not necessary for the main story.”



In the further course of the interview, Kostiuk also reveals how the studio approaches the development of additional content for the game. Since “La Quimera” is a significantly more compact experience than, for example, “Metro”, the developers are currently thinking about how they can offer players more content without losing narrative focus.

“The development of additional content for La Quimera is still in progress. We carefully consider how we can best expand the experience without deviating from the core of the story,” said Kostiuk.

What about the season?

The focus on the narrative experience and the lower scope naturally also affect the playing time of “La Quimera”.

“In view of the challenges with which we were confronted by the war in Ukraine during the development of La Quimera, we made the decision to concentrate on a more compact experience. However, without refraining from the game,” Kostiuk explained.



“The main story for single players will employ experienced FPS fans for about five hours,” Kostiuk concluded. “If you are looking for an additional challenge together with friends in co-op mode, you can extend the season by a few hours.”

“La Quimera” initially appears via Steam for the PC. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S are at a later time.
