Ukraine plans a counter-proposal to the US raw material agreement. Trump reacts sharply.
According to a high-ranking government representative, Ukraine wants to present a counter-proposal for a US design for a raw material agreement with the USA by the end of the week. After negotiations with the US side conducted by video switching, the Ukrainian negotiators would initially advise President Wolodymyr Selenskyj about the status of the talks, to develop their own negotiating position and then to send it to the United States, said the government official on Monday of the AFP news agency.
The draft previously presented by the USA was only the “starting point” of an agreement, the government representative continued. According to his information, the government in Kiev also tries to design the contract in the receipt of Ukraine’s obligations towards the EU when preparing the agreement.
Several media had previously reported that parts of the raw material agreement could conflict with the EU accession procedure of Ukraine.
US President Donald Trump had accused his Ukrainian counterpart Selenskyj on Sunday that he wanted to get out of the agreement and threatened him with “major problems” in this case.
The Ukrainian member of the government said that Trump’s statements could have been “misunderstood” that the US President might have referred to NATO.
The signing of the agreement, which was to be a step to end the Ukraine war, was actually planned for the end of February. She had burst when there was a scandal in the White House. Trump and his Vice President JD Vance threw Selenskyj in the Oval Office in front of ongoing cameras disrespect and a lack of gratitude for the US military aids.
A few days later, Selenskyj had emphasized his willingness to sign the agreement. According to Ukrainian information, it stipulates that the United States and Ukraine will in future promote raw materials in the Ukrainian field. The income should therefore flow into a common fund.
