Before the first meeting of the new Bundestag, the parties discuss important personal details. The focus: the occupation of the new parliamentary Presidium.
The previous parliamentary managing director Josephine Ortleb is to move into the Presidium of the new Bundestag for the SPD. The new Presidium of the Bundestag is to be elected on Tuesday in the constituent session. The CDU/CSU parliamentary group has already proposed the former agricultural minister Julia Klöckner for the office of President of the Bundestag.

The AfD parliamentary group in the newly elected Bundestag plans to set up its MP Gerold Otten for the office of Vice President at the constituent meeting on Tuesday. After the Bundestag election on February 23, the AfD provides the second largest parliamentary group in parliament and has already registered its claim to fill a vice presidential post. Since her first moving into the Bundestag in 2017, she has not been represented in the parliamentary president. So far, all AfD candidates for a Vice President have not received the required majority.
Also this year it is not to be expected that the AfD candidate will confirm. “This office is a government office,” said CDU boss Friedrich Merz of the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung”. “And I will not recommend the Union faction to vote for an AfD MP or an AfD MP in a state office.”
