Finance Minister Jörg Kukies wants to reduce the dependencies of US tech companies so that Europe is less blackmailable. He warns of excessive concessions to the United States.

Jörg Kukies, managing Federal Minister of Finance, worked for the investment bank Goldman Sachs before moving to politics, most recently as head of Germany. Olaf Scholz initially brought the Social Democrats to the Ministry of Finance, after the Bundestag election in 2021 Kukies then moved to the Chancellery with Scholz. After Christian Lindner’s resignation, he took over the post of finance minister. It is still unclear how the next government will continue-the Ministry of Finance is expected to take over SPD boss Lars Klingbeil.
