Hamburger SV repairs two deficits, but only gets one point on the 7th matchday of the 2nd Bundesliga. 1. FC Magdeburg, on the other hand, brings SV Darmstadt 98 back down to earth after their spectacular victory at FC Schalke 04.
Hamburger SV – SC Paderborn 2:2 (0:0)
Hamburger SV and SC Paderborn missed out on the promotion ranks in the pursuit duel in the 2nd Bundesliga. After a wild second half, the score was 2-2 (0-0), and HSV under coach Steffen Baumgart made up for a deficit twice against his former club. Paderborn (13 points) and Hamburg (12) temporarily lost touch with league leaders Fortuna Düsseldorf (17).
The guests took the lead twice through Filip Bilbija (46th/60th), for the 24-year-old it was the first second division brace of his career. The two Hamburg center forwards Robert Glatzel (54th) and Davie Selke (67th), who were called up together from the start, each equalized.
Until halftime it had been a duel without any highlights. HSV looked slightly superior, but Paderborn defended consistently in their own third – so there were hardly any real chances to score on either side. Immediately after the break, however, both teams made up for what they had missed: less than a minute had been played when Paderborn quickly switched gears. Bilbija finally got the ball from eleven meters and converted after a turn.
As a result, the goalkeepers on both sides helped a lot: Paderborn’s Pelle Boevink let Glatzel’s rather harmless shot slip through his legs, HSV had equalized – but just six minutes later Matheo Raab was the focus. The substitute for the injured Daniel Heuer Fernandes rushed out of his goal in the pouring rain, but didn’t catch the ball properly and put it on Bilbija. He scored his second goal of the day with a chip. Selke then scored with a diving header from a cross from Noah Katterbach to make it 2-2.
SV Darmstadt 98 – 1. FC Magdeburg 1:2 (1:1)
1. FC Magdeburg is still close on the heels of leaders Fortuna Düsseldorf. Coach Christian Titz’s team beat Darmstadt 98 2-1 (1-1) and climbed to second place with 15 points.
After Darmstadt’s opening goal by Isac Lidberg (11th), Livan Burcu (22nd) equalized for Magdeburg and gave himself a present on his 20th birthday. A little later, the goalscorer shone as an assist for Connor Krempicki’s goal (48th). The FCM achieved victory despite being outnumbered after the yellow-red card against Marcus Mathisen (73rd).
Magdeburg, who have been unbeaten in seven games, are only two points behind the league leaders from Düsseldorf. After the defeat, Darmstadt is still stuck in the bottom of the table with five points.
After a good start from the hosts, Magdeburg quickly got into the game and took control of the game. Even after the equalizer, FCM continued to create opportunities. Darmstadt was able to hold off, Magdeburg keeper Dominik Reimann (38th) prevented Hesse from scoring another goal.
After the break, however, Magdeburg immediately stepped up and initially continued to dictate the action on the pitch, but after Mathisen was sent off, Darmstadt also came back dangerously in front of the opponent’s goal. For Darmstadt, the home defeat after the exhilarating 5-3 away win at FC Schalke 04 means a new setback: the Hessians remain stuck in the second division cellar.
Jahn Regensburg – 1. FC Kaiserslautern 0-0
1. FC Kaiserslautern is still looking for momentum after a good start to the season. At bottom team Jahn Regensburg, coach Markus beginning’s team couldn’t get past a 0-0 draw, meaning FCK remained without a win for the fourth league game in a row – the team had scored seven points from the first three matchdays.
Kaiserslautern (9 points) has temporarily lost touch with the promotion region after seven games. Regensburg (4) at least got a point again after four defeats, but the team definitely had a chance of winning on Saturday.
The duel between the dissatisfied initially did not produce good football. Kaiserslautern was stronger until the break and had decent chances to take the lead through Ragnar Ache (2nd/35th) and Marlon Ritter (17th), but Jahn goalkeeper Felix Gebhardt was there in each case. The game wasn’t flowing until then, but in the second half things suddenly got serious in the penalty areas.
Ache hit the post for Kaiserslautern (47th), and a little later Christian Kühlwetter (50th) hit the crossbar for the hosts. These were only the best chances of a turbulent phase of the game, Regensburg were now playing on an equal level and were always close to the lead.
