Fernando Morientes, the emblematic former team of teams such as Real Madrid or Valencia, has lived One of the toughest episodes of his life. This Saturday, during his speech in the ‘Time of Game’ program, of the COPE chain, the former soccer player revealed that just a few days ago it was Entering emergency and remained Five days hospitalized After suffering a pulmonary thromboembolism. The one who was one of the great names of Spanish football confessed that is in recovery process and that what has lived has been a real scare for him and his family.
As revealed in the Cope program, it all started after a series of travel. The former player was moving From Huelva to Madrid And, on that journey, he began to experience unusual pain: “My chest hurt”he said.
Despite the symptoms, its initial reaction was to subtract importance to the matter. His wife, however, did not think the same: “My wife wanted to go to the hospital, I didn’t want to”. But the situation was complicated with the passing of the hours. “Already at night I felt something that was not normal,” he said, detailing that it was “A sharp pain in the chest, but very localized and under the sternum”.
At first, Morientes attributed the symptoms to some kind of gastric problem: “I thought it was a gastric thing, that I would have eaten something, that it would happen to me”. And it was not the first time he dealt with stomach discomfort. “I have a problem in my stomach for a long time … and I am treating it and there are times that with the seasonal changes it gives me some symptomatology,” he explained, insisting that, at first, “I thought it was sincerely.”
However, seeing that the ailment persisted, At five in the morning he decided to go to the hospital. There the alarms began to jump. “They found the very high cardiac enzymes and there they scared”he confessed. The doctors then began a battery of heart -centered tests, a moment of uncertainty and fear for the former player: “They touched my Achilles heel, I thought it was something of the heart and of course, I do not smoke, I do not drink, I do not lead a rare life, I take care of myself, I do sports, I do not know … it was like ‘it cannot be true'”. Fortunately, the results ruled out that possibility.
The medical diagnosis
“There they saw a spill in the pleura and they have already been alarmed because it could be some lungs and they found it: pulmonary thromboembolism”. It was a clot that had formed due to prolonged immobility in the trips he had made: “A clot that was born in the part behind the knee for so long in the air, stopped, in the car …”. “My blood thickened, above in the air, and little by little that thrombus went out into the veins, up, lodged in the lung and that was the pain he had”he added.
Morientes did not hide his surprise at the diagnosis: “He hallucinated in colors.” And, as he himself stressed, “I have never had any problem and I have been in the hospital for five days with a death scare”.
“For my family it has been a tremendous scare,” he acknowledged. “For me too, because at first I thought it was a theme of the heart.”
Finally, the former soccer player said he is already at home and that his only goal is to recover completely: “I will recover 100% of everything, the only thing that I now need a little rest and tranquility,” he concluded.
