A new ceasefire is not in sight in the Middle East. Hamas has now rejected Israel’s proposal.

According to Hamas, Hamas has rejected an Israeli proposal for the release of the hostages and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. As the AFP news agency learned from Hamas circles on Wednesday evening, the Islamist Palestinian organization “decided not to continue to pursue the youngest of Israeli proposal presented by the intermediaries”. Another Hamas representative confirmed to the AFP the refusal of the militant group to negotiate on the basis of the youngest Israeli offer.

Instead, according to the terrorist organization, the intermediaries and the international community of Israel should “force” to engage in a proposal submitted by Egypt and Qatar. Since January 19, a ceasefire has been in the Gaza Strip, the first phase of the agreement concluded with the help of international intermediaries expired on March 1st. An agreement on the second phase has not yet been reached.

In the meantime, Israel resumed its massive air raids on Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip. In addition, the Israeli army started a new ground in the Palestinian area.

According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel wants to increase the pressure on the Islamist Hamas in the Gaza Strip in order to get the hostages that are still held there. Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Wednesday that in the fight against “terrorists” “large areas” of the Gaza Strip should become “Israeli security zones”. However, the federal government confirmed the evacuation of 19 Germans and their relatives from the Gaza Strip.

According to its own information, the Israeli Air Force also attacked several destinations in Syria on Wednesday. As the Israeli military continued, the Syrian military airport in Hama in the west of the country and the so-called T4 base, another military airfield further south, were hit. Military infrastructure was also attacked in the capital Damascus. The Syrian news agency Sana confirmed the attacks without further details.
