Donald Trump has announced that the USA could control the Gaza Strip – to make a “Riviera”. The Palestinians would have to leave Gaza in the consequence. The international community fears forced displacement. What do you think of this suggestion?
This idea has caused a lot of confusion – also in the USA itself. It is unclear what such control should look like. And more importantly: she does not contribute to solving the hostage question. However, it is crucial here: Nobody can be forced to leave Gaza. After all, Trump’s advance apparently moved to the question about the future of Gazas – Arab states have presented his own suggestions for the solution for the first time. It is noteworthy, however, how little Arab states are ready to accept people from Gaza.
How do you evaluate the course of the current US government to Israel?
The new US government has only recently been in office. We expressly welcome some measures-such as the renewed classification of the Huthi militia as a terrorist organization or the harder attitude towards Iran. A lot ties in with Trump’s first term. The large lines are still difficult to recognize.
In Trump’s environment there are supporters of the AfD. Does this make him a danger to democracy – also in the United States?
We should generally be more reserved when it comes to publicly evaluating political actors in other countries – as well as vice versa. Anyone who supports this party should know exactly who he makes in common. However, when I look at what is said about the AfD in the USA, I doubt that there is a lot of factual knowledge there.
But does Trump endanger democracy in the United States?
Trump has been president before. The institutions kept – even if there were worrying developments. The United States remains a functioning democracy. You have to work with the government that was chosen and criticize them where it is necessary.
Appearance like that of JD Vance at the Munich Security Conference, many have doubts about the partnership. Is America still a reliable ally?
