Defending champion Berlin shoots himself back into the final with a winning victory

Is the reigning master the new one too? The Eisbären Berlin have the chance to defend their title. In the semi -finals they dominate the Adler Mannheim. The opponent in the final is still open – the Berliners have a longer break than the competitor.

Led by recordman Ty Ronning and Frederik Tiffels, the Eisbären Berlin in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) moved into the final again. The team of coach Serge Aubin won 6: 2 (2: 0, 1: 1, 3: 1) at the Adler Mannheim and thus celebrated the fourth game in the best-of-Seven series. In the final, the defending champion now meets either the Cologne Haie or ERC Ingolstadt (Play-Off-State: 2: 1).

“I am very proud. It was difficult games, but the boys found a way,” Aubin said after the victory at the Magentasport microphone: “I thought that was our best game in the series. The boys are on a mission.”

Frederik Tiffels and Lean Bergmann duplicated, Leonhard Pföderl and Ty Ronning scored the other goals from the capitals. Austin Ortega and Kristian Reichel met for the Palatinate. The polar bears had to do without Zach Boychuk. The Canadian had been closed for four games because he had hit his opponent Tom Kühnhackl with the racket against the head and neck area in the third semi-final game in the final minute.

The Mannheimers started in front of 13,068 spectators at home. But they did not use their chances. Instead, the Berliners took the lead in the twelfth minute with a goal from Pföderl. After that they were always dangerous with quick attacks, Tiffels expanded the lead 69 seconds before the first break.

Even after the restart, the capitals initially determined the game, Ronning increased to 3: 0 (28th). However, the encounter became more heated, from which the Kurpfälzer benefited. Ortega was able to shorten the deficit in the first power play (32nd). 55 seconds after the beginning of the final third, Reichel even scored the connection goal of the Mannheimers. But the Berliners only had to worry about success. Bergmann (48th) as well as Tiffels (54th) and Bergmann (55th) ensured a clear result at the end.

The DEL final series is scheduled to begin next week, the first game is planned for Maundy Thursday. The opponents – whether Haie or Ingolstadt – will be able to compete less.
