The medieval Mainberg Castle in Lower Franconia has had a lively story. For example, a famous later Playboy was born there. Now investors are being sought.
Mainberg Castle in Lower Franconia, the birthplace of the later Playboy Gunter Sachs, is for sale – for several million euros. The municipality of Schonungen near Schweinfurt is looking for a new owner. On May 15th, investors and media are said to have the chance to get to know the listed castle with its 28 rooms better. Gunter Sachs was born there 93 years ago.
According to the property display, the ensemble is available for a good three million euros. It is advertised as “the Franconian Neuschwanstein”. A knight’s hall with organ, a vaulted cellar and a 400 square meter apartment are waiting for the new owner.
“Our primary goal is that the castle is preserved,” says the mayor of the community, Stefan Rottmann (SPD). If the castle also becomes open to the public, that would be a “nice to have”, a nice addition, said Rottmann.
In order to make the building as tasty for investors as possible, the municipality claimed to have 100,000 euros for a comprehensive synopsis. Among other things, it says how the castle could be used economically. It used to be a domicile for gastronomic events.
According to Rottmann, the current owner, who took over the house 20 years ago, is financially overwhelmed. It has been considered for years how the property could continue. The Free State has already stepped in financially to secure the castle.
For the public, the farm, which is visible from afar, has been closed for a long time. Interested visitors must also stay outside on May 15th. According to the invitation flyer, this date is only intended for “investors and media from home and abroad”.
Because of the fire protection regulations, only a few people are currently allowed to go to the castle at the same time. Potential investors should also be able to visit the property on the Internet – on a virtual tour.
According to the Schloss Mainberg, the castle was mentioned for the first time in terms of document. The color manufacturer Wilhelm Sattler renovated it in 1822 in the Renaissance and Gothic style.
Gunter Sachs was born there in 1932 – as the son of the industrialist Willy Sachs. In the 1960s and 1970s, Sachs belonged to the European jet set. He was married to French actress Brigitte Bardot for three years. Sachs was also a well -known art collector and photographer – for example for the “Vogue”. In 2011 he died in Switzerland at the age of 78.
