He was only 31 years old, Liam James Payneformer guitarist and singer of One Direction.
They found him dead, having fallen from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, in the Palermo district.
According to the Argentine press, the affair began in the afternoon, when the police arrived at the hotel after reporting a “disturbing man”, perhaps under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Upon arrival, however, the officers found the man on the ground after a fall from the third floor of the building. Also according to local media, Payne was in Buenos Aires to attend the concert of his former bandmate, Niall Horan.
The police will have to ascertain whether Payne’s death was due to an accident – and what kind – or whether it was suicide. And exclude any possibility of murder: at the moment no other people are involved, but the investigations will obviously be comprehensive.

Alberto Crescenti, head of the state emergency medical system, told the Argentine TV channel All News that Payne fell in a courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel in the Palermo neighborhood of the Argentine capital. Crescenti said Payne suffered “very serious injuries” in the fall and that “there was no chance to resuscitate him.”
“At 5.04pm we were alerted to a person who was in the internal courtyard of the Casa Sur hotel. At 5.11pm – he explained – a rescue team arrived and confirmed the man’s death. We later found out who was a member of a musical group. Unfortunately he suffered very serious injuries due to the fall, so we had to confirm his death”.
Crescenti underlined that we will have to wait for the results of the autopsy, but also added that “according to what was certified by the medical team he had a fracture at the base of the skull, a very serious injury”.
Half an hour before the tragic news, the singer had published a series of photos with his girlfriend on Snapchat.
Geoff and Karen Payne, Liam’s parents, said in several interviews with the British media that the former One Direction member had several health problems during childhood. Among these, the failure of one of his kidneys, which led him to spend the first years of his life in hospital. In August the singer canceled his South American tour due to health problems. He was supposed to perform in Argentina on September 9th but, due to a kidney infection, he took a break.
