The long -time international apparently has no future in Munich. A club legend is now commented on the possible departure of the attacker-and becomes clear.

A possible farewell to Thomas Müller not only moves fans, but also former sizes of FC Bayern. Goalkeeper icon Sepp Maier critically commented on the situation around the long-time offensive player.

“Such players make up an association, they are his soul – and it is precisely these types that are becoming less and less common today,” said Maier at Sport1. “With them, the club loses a piece of his soul.”

Maier does not believe that those responsible at FC Bayern could not recognize Müller’s special importance. Rather, he sees more than just a well -deserved player in Müller: he stands for what the club has been for decades. “He embodies the club’s identity,” emphasized Maier. Now it is time to fill the club motto “Mia San Mia” with life.

After 17 years in the professional squad of the record champions, Müller’s career in Munich seems to bend on the home stretch. According to reports of “Bild” and “Kicker”, the 35-year-old should no longer receive a new player contract in the summer. Müller himself would have liked to add another year.

Maier would also have liked another decision. “I can’t understand the decision. A rather bitter end,” said the former national goalkeeper. A commitment abroad is not an option for him: “Thomas will end his career,” said Maier, adding: “What is he supposed to be in America or Dubai? Thomas belongs to Munich – here he has his family, his wife, horses and everything that makes him happy.”

So far, Müller has played 742 competitive games for FC Bayern, scoring 247 goals. With these numbers, he also exceeded Maier himself, who comes to 709 missions for the club. With the Munich team, Müller won the Champions League and twelve championships and six times the DFB Cup.
