Bavaria Weapons authorities removed a total of 140 weapons last year. Of these, 25 of the so-called Reich Citizens and 10 of the right-wing extremist scene belonged. In addition, 31 gun ownership bans were imposed. Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) said in Munich. “The Bavarian weapons authorities still make great efforts to deny extremists from all stripes,” he said. They consistently exhausted all legal options and fulfilled every suspicion meticulously.
The district offices and independent cities responsible for weapons law therefore expressed a revocation of their weapon permits against 25 people with extremist references. 15 others had prior to the revocation by voluntarily submitting their permits and weapons. “In total, 140 weapons could be withdrawn last year,” reported Herrmann. In 17 cases, the procedure initiated as of December 31, 2024 was not yet complete. In another 36 people, the examination currently continues whether the knowledge of the authorities is sufficient to initiate a procedure.
In total, more than 850 weapons
In several other cases, the authorities prevented the fact that extremists came to weapons at all: three applications for weapons law permission were rejected due to extremist remuneration from the applicants and an application was withdrawn due to the expected negative decision.
Compared to the year before, the number of disarmament decreased somewhat. In 2023 there were 84 disarmeds, 47 weapon ownership bans were pronounced and 145 weapons were removed. According to Herrmann, this is due to the consistent approach of the Bavarian weapons authorities in previous years. Since a change in the law in 2020, the authorities had revoked the weapon permits under weapons law, 112 others had voluntarily returned their permits beforehand. A total of 852 weapons have been withdrawn since then and 178 weapon ownership bans were pronounced.
