In the middle of the war in Israel, the EU wants to support the Palestinian population. A new billion package has now been announced for this.
Ramallah-The EU Commission has new financial aid for the Palestinians in Gaza strip and West Bank of up to 1.6 billion euros announced. The auxiliary program was designed for a period of three years from 2025 to 2027, the Commission said on Monday (April 14) in a message. Almost 1.2 billion euros should therefore flow as grants, 400 million euros are earmarked as loans for the private sector.
EU help for Palestinians: “Stabilization of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip”
“We strengthen our support for the Palestinian people,” wrote the EU foreign representative Kaja Kallas with reference to the new help in the online service X. The money will “contribute to the stabilization of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip,” she added. The EU will “invest important infrastructures and at the same time provide humanitarian aid and support for refugees”.
According to the Commission, 620 million euros are planned for the Palestinian Authority in order to tackle “the most urgent needs of public administration”. Around 576 million euros should go to specific projects, for example for Water and energy supply as well as infrastructure. Of this sum, 82 million euros per year is to be paid for the UN Palestinian aid work.
400 million euros to Palestinians for private sector
The EU Commission also stated that the European Investment Bank (EIB) with loans of up to 400 million euros in providing new funds for the private sector.
The EU Foreign Minister of the EU will meet representatives of the Palestinian Authority in Luxembourg on Monday, including Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa. In addition to the location in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, it should also be about the reform program of the Palestinian authorities.
