The renovation of the terrain on the Wikingeck an der Schlei in Schleswig, which is contaminated with pollutants. «The work is on schedule. It can currently be assumed that the renovation will be completed at the end of this year, »said the spokesman for the Schleswig-Flensburg district, Marko Wolter. Work is still being continued on land, and the start of water -side renovation is also being prepared.
A so -called honeycomb procedure is used in the country -sided renovation. In doing so, honeycombs are inserted into the soil, the soil in it is excavated by an excavator and then filled in the honeycombs.
According to the district spokesman, the upper part of the Schlei sediment is excavated in the water-side renovation. This mixture of soil and water is then prepared, the floor is removed and the removed water cleaned back into the slop.
One of the largest known contaminated sites in the country
From the property of a former gas plant and a tar and roof cardboard factory on the Wikingeck, toxic fabrics for decades have been entering the loop through the contaminated soil. The affected area comprises around 6,110 square meters of land and around 3,400 square meters of water surface. It is considered one of the largest known contaminated sites in Schleswig-Holstein. The renovation work started in October 2023.
Dispute over the financing between the federal and district
By financing the measure there are different opinions between the circle and the federal government. Because the question of ownership is controversial between the participants. The circle is of the opinion that the federal government, as the owner of the area, has to cover two thirds of the costs. Among other things, the federal government argues that it has no ownership of the affected property.
A legal discussion has been running for a long time. On May 22, 2025, there will therefore be another appointment at the administrative court in Schleswig. In the sense of the matter, it is advisable that the circle and the federal government – also in view of the well -advanced work – find a sustainable solution, “in the best possible way,” said the district.
