Rescue workers in South Korea Look for a missing worker under the ruins of a collapsed subway tunnel. This reported the official news agency Yonhap, citing civil servants. The tunnel under construction in Gwangmyeong south of the capital Seoul had collapsed on Friday afternoon (local time).

Due to the collapse, the street lying above sagged, as photos of the scene of the accident show. Shortly after the incident, there were no contact with five workers, as Yonhap continued. Three of them were later discovered to safety. The helpers would have saved an excavator driver from a depth of around 30 meters 13 hours after the collapse.

Concern for weather forecast

An over 50-year-old is now missing. So far, the rescue workers have not been able to find the worker. According to Yonhap, seven search dogs support rescue work.

But the helpers fight against the time. The weather is worried: meteorologists said for Sunday morning Seoul And the surrounding area ahead with flash and thunder, which could hinder the further rescue work.

Residents in emergency accommodation

The police meanwhile investigated the cause of the collapse. Shortly before the collapse, the authorities had evacuated the area around the construction site after cracks appeared on several pillars, as Yonhap reported. Around 2,400 people were affected. Most of them were able to return to their apartments after midnight. According to Yonhap, 220 people spent the night in emergency accommodation.
