Chief Minister Nitish Kumar
Before the Bihar assembly elections, the Nitish Kumar government has announced a reduction in electricity rates, giving relief to millions of consumers. New electricity rates have been implemented in the state from today. This will benefit both rural and urban consumers. Under these rates to be implemented from 1 April 2025, smart prepaid meter consumers will get a discount of 25 paise per unit, while electricity in rural areas will be cheaper by 54 paise per unit.
Rural consumers consuming electricity more than 50 units a month will get this benefit. 125 crore consumers of this category will benefit from this.
Special discounts for smart meters
The state government has decided to give additional benefits to those installed smart prepaid meters. For 6 months of installing smart meters, consumers will not pay any penalty for consuming more electricity than the prescribed load. Especially in rural areas, these consumers will save a total of up to 79 paise per unit.

The proposal to increase the electricity rate for industrial units has been rejected. Also, industrial consumers paying digital payments will be given a discount of up to Rs 1% or a maximum of Rs 50,000.
