Dressage Olympic champion Isabell Werth will receive a special honor at the 42nd German Sports Press Ball. Since the Summer Games in Paris, the woman from Rheinberg has been the most successful German Olympian and the world’s most successful rider to date with eight gold and six silver medals.

Dressage Olympic champion Isabell Werth will be named a “Legend of Sport” at the 42nd German Sports Press Ball on November 9th in the Alte Oper Frankfurt. Ball organizer Jörg Müller announced this at a press conference.

Since the Games in Paris in the summer, Werth, from Rheinberg, has been the most successful German Olympian to date and the world’s most successful rider with eight gold and six silver medals. “She always managed to build a special relationship with her horses that was characterized by great appreciation,” explained Müller. In the palace gardens of Versailles, Werth had added a team victory and individual silver to her precious metal collection and had thus moved past canoeist Birgit Fischer in the national ranking.

The “Legend of Sport” honor has been awarded since 2007. Most recently, Ironman world champion and triathlon Olympic champion Jan Frodeno received the Pegasos Prize in this category. The winners in the “Athletes with Heart” and “Sports Media” categories will be announced at a later date.

The rest of the event’s program, which is organized by the Association of German Sports Journalists and the Frankfurter Sportpresse Association together with the Metropress agency, will also be under the motto “Merci Paris” and will focus entirely on the Olympic Games and Paralympics in France. Eight of the twelve German Olympic gold medalists have already confirmed their participation. With 2,200 expected guests from politics, media, show business and sport, the ball is one of the largest of its kind in Germany. The musical star guest is singer Howard Carpendale.
