It was time for the DFB women to dominate the duel against Scotland. But the team showed two faces – and benefited from two substitutes.
Less than three months before the European Championship, the German women’s national team against Scotland woke up again late-and in the end once again won a 6-1 win. The team of national coach Christian Wück again showed a very weak first half against the outsiders.
Before 16.102 spectators in the Volkswagen Arena, Selina Cerci (51st, 56th and 76th minute) from TSG Hoffenheim three times and Giovanna Hoffmann (63./65) by RB Leipzig met twice after the break. Frankfurt’s Laura also scored a hit (67th). Caroline Weir had given the guests who could not qualify for the European Championship (40th). Four days after the 4-0 in Dundee, the DFB women did not get going for a long time.
National coach Wück warned after the final whistle in the ARD: “The girls made me twice today, once in the first half, once in the second half. As you can show two faces with almost the same troops, that is already unusual. We have to get that under control. You can’t afford such a half at the European Championship.”
Captain Giulia Gwinn also emphasized: “It was not completely detached in the first half. It did not interlock. Later a different face was shown “and showed that we did not satisfy ourselves with a 2: 1, 3: 1.”
She added: “This is punished much more clearly against other teams.” Read how the team around the goal scores and captain Gwinn in the individual criticism can be read here or up in the photo show.
Due to the third victory in the fourth game of the competition, the Olympic third defends group leadership of the group A1. Before the European Championship in Switzerland (July 2 to 27), Wück now has two games to bring his selection in shape: Against the Netherlands on May 20 in Bremen and in Austria on June 3.
