DFB casting in hot phase

Lange of Lena Oberdorf dominates the European Championship fight

Only three games to the European Championship: If you want to be added to the women’s DFB team, you have to show yourself from the very best side. The competition in midfield is particularly great. And it mixes one that could not yet play for their current club.
Does Lena Oberdorf return to the European Championship in time? National coach Christian Wück and the world -class player from FC Bayern have not yet given up hope. In midfield, before the European Football Championship in Switzerland in Switzerland, there is a crisp competition even without 23-year-olds, who is on schedule after her cruciate ligament tear.
In the Nations League game against Scotland in Wolfsburg on Tuesday (5.45 p.m./ARD, KIKA and in the NTV.de Liveticker) Wück expects further important findings. Because after that there are only two test games before the European Championship: against the Netherlands on May 20 in Bremen and against Austria on June 3.
In defense, the personnel selection for Wück is very limited, in the attack, Klara Bühl, Lea Schüller and Jule Brand are set. The Oberdorf, which was so important, was set over the years until she suffered her serious knee injury shortly before the Olympics. The Munich native is partly back in team training at Bayern and wants to “brutally” to the European Championship. She couldn’t even play for her club.
“I just have to see how it is with the knee and whether I can still play games at Bayern,” said the world-class player in the sky “stoppage time”. Wück knows “from its own experience how difficult it can be to come back after a cruciate ligament tear”. The “Wolfsburger Allgemeine” explained the DFB coach: “In the end it is crucial how her knee will react. It would of course be good if she can play two or three games for Bavaria this season.”
Dallmann plays in the foreground
These questions arise among the other midfielder: Is Laura Freelang or Sydney Lohmann succeeded in breaking down? Is Sara Däbritz still needed? Do Elisa Sense and Sjoeke Nüsken defend their place? In the defensive midfield, in addition to Chelsea-professional Nüsken, Seneß has recently played firmly and achieved the leadership in the 4-0 in the first leg in Scotland. Biting, technically strong and with an overview, although not with the force of a Oberdorf – as the Frankfurt woman convinced.
On the 10, Linda Dallmann is becoming increasingly important: the 30-year-old Munich native, only 1.58 meters tall, could shake off her joker role in the DFB selection. “Linda has proven – regardless of whether she plays or is substituted from the start – that she changes the way of the game. She realizes that she is an integral part,” said Wück. Dallmann himself said: “You shouldn’t always define your appreciation whether you start or not. I learned that over my time that both roles have advantages and disadvantages.”
With short missions, Laura Freiang also has her experiences – at the European Championship 2022, the 2023 and Olympics 2024. At the new national coach, the Frankfurter was already in the initial formation, and she was rarely able to shine as a director and striker.
MINGE is used in central defense
Sydney Lohmann from FC Bayern has been in this position as a player with enormous potential for years, but always fought with injuries. “I want to show myself and carry the eagle on my chest. The European Championship is my goal,” said the 24-year-old. Wück told her “that she is very close and should simply continue on her way after her injury”.
When the bronze medal in France under Horst Hrubesch, Janina Minge had played in the foreground as Oberdorf representative. The all -rounder from VfL Wolfsburg, now also deputy captain, is currently used in central defense. “I think Janina has not yet realized how valuable she can be for a team. This applies not only on the pitch, but also next to it and to the input that she can also give in team meetings,” said Wück.
And then there would also be Sara Däbritz. The 30-year-old from Olympique Lyon is the last remaining from the Olympic Triumph 2016 and the most experienced with 106 international matches. In 2013 she was already a European champion, most recently with her substitution in the 4: 1 against Austria “she gave” a certain stability in midfield, “said Wück. Also a quality in a team that takes a change in change in different team parts.
