Saxony Breweries look ahead with confidence. “We hope that with the new federal government in Berlin, the urgently needed change of politics will also take place and that people look positively into the future,” said the President of the Saxon Brewers’ Association, Steffen Dittmar, on the occasion of the day of beer on April 23.
Despite increased costs, growing bureaucracy and demographic challenges, the industry is still on growth course. The number of brewing sites in the Free State has increased to 84 in the past 30 years and has more than doubled.
With a total beer sales of almost 6.7 million hectoliters, Saxony was again one of the three largest Brohlanders in Germany in 2024. The Free State occupies a top position in East Germany.
More than beer: training with a future
The industry continues to focus on regional connection – also during training. In addition to the classic profession brewer and Mälzer, Saxon breweries now offer a wide range of training opportunities, for example in food technology or in the area of mechatronics, it was said.
The state treasury also benefits: Last year, the Free State claimed around 52 million euros in beer tax.
