Her family saw Sonja Engelbrecht for the last time on April 10, 1995. The black pants she was wearing that evening she bought her birthday money, the new leather jacket had gave her grandma. Because only a few days earlier the young woman had celebrated her 19th birthday. She broke open on that April 10th to meet a friend – and disappeared without a trace.
Even 30 years after their disappearance, the case deals with the Munich police still. In 2020 a bone was discovered in March 2022 the skeleton of the missing in a crevice near Kipfenberg in the district of Eichstätt. Since then it has been clear what was already a sad guess: the young woman was the victim of a crime.
On the anniversary of their disappearance, the Munich police want to give an update about the status of the investigation. In March of last year, the police had mostly taken dozens of DNA smears from men who had often been in the forests around the corpse foundation for professional or private reasons, such as hunters. DNA traces had been found in Engelbrecht’s body.
The investigators assume that the unknown murderer knew well around the hiding place. The storage location in a crevice in a forest is so offside, there is no hiker or mushroom collector just over, said the then head of the Munich homicide commission, Stephan Beer, after the funeral. In addition, the perpetrator was probably busy with construction or renovation work. This resulted in the analysis of sacks, foils and the adhesive tape with which the body had been packed: “There was also painter paint on it.” Clothing had not been found in their remains, so that the perpetrator probably put them naked.
According to the police, the perpetrator could have been in the Eichstätt or Ingolstadt region for professional or private reasons. In addition, he had to offer some strength to carry the woman’s body hundreds of meters through rough terrain to the rock column. “You have to be physically fit to transport 50 to 55 kilograms over this distance,” said Beer at the time.
Does a blanket with a couple bring the crucial indication?
The investigators hope primarily for a striking polyacrylic ceiling, the remains of which was found in the skeleton. She has a striking, black and blue plant pattern and shows the outlines of a man and a woman sitting on a bench and climbing each other.
According to the police, Engelbrecht’s friend had recently seen her alive at the Stiglmaierplatz tram stop at the Munich tram stop. After that there was speculation that the young woman could have been kidnapped and killed or sold to human retailers.
