FC Bayern Munich missed the move into the Champions League semi-final in the quarterfinal second leg against Inter Milan. After the 1-2 loss in the first leg, a 2: 2 (1: 0) in the second leg in Italy was not enough for progress.
After the 1-0 by Harry Kane (52nd minute) it looked briefly as if Bayern could compensate for the defeat from the first leg. But Inter countered with a double strike: Lautaro Martínez (58th) and the former Munich Benjamin Pavard (61st) each hit after a corner kick and brought Inter to victory, on which the Eric dier (76.) equalization was no longer changed.
After Borussia Dortmund missed the next round on Tuesday, all German teams from this year’s Champions League season were eliminated. For the German record champions, the dream has also burst to take part in a royal class finale in the local Munich Allianz Arena after 2012.
Two corners end the dream of the semi -finals
FC Bayern started the game with a high pressing and thus presented Inter problems early. The Italians had to struggle with the flexibility of the Munich. However, the Bavarians could not use some early chances, after which their activity subsided a little. The strong defense of the Milanese was also a challenge for the Munich team, which Thomas Müller had led to the field as captain.
After half -time, however, Kane came to the train when he got the ball on the corner of the five -meter room and his team shot 1-0 (52nd). A few minutes later, Müller had the great chance of 2-0 in his 163rd Champions League game, but he missed free-standing.
Instead, Inter came back quickly. A corner kick bounced off Joshua Kimmich and landed at Martínez, who went straight (58.) and scored from a short distance. Just three minutes later, Parvard put it 2-1 – also after a corner. After the equalizer by Dier (76th), hope came up again for Bavaria. But in the end there was no longer a way against the defense of the Italians – Müller left the last chance in added time.
Müller: “Of course are disappointed”
“Of course we are disappointed, we had big goals,” said Müller after the game at DAZN. The game was at eye level and all players would have given everything, so “everything okay”. It is “probably more emotional” for his family.
Inter Milan meets FC Barcelona in the semifinals. In the second game of the evening, defending champion Real Madrid also missed a comeback and lost the second game against Arsenal after the first leg in London. After the 2-1 win and a total result of 5: 1, the English meet in the round of the last four on Paris Saint-Germain.
